| Thalassemia - a hereditary blood disorder where the patients needs to undergo regular blood transfusion since their body cannot produce enough haemoglobin, has been a question of concern for Shri. Subhash Desai. Thalesamia is a genetic disorder. All the blood cells perform the function of carrying the most essential work of circulating oxygen. These Blood cells consist of a substance called Hemoglobin, which contains different kinds of proteins in the form of a chain. This structure of hemoglobin is decided by a person’s DNA. Thalesamia has two types mainly major and minor. The people who are anemic are more prone to being Thalesamia Minor. The suffering being caused in arranging the blood is a huge social problem. Shri. Subhash Desai started a Thalassemia Centre in Sau Meenatai Thackeray Blood Bank at Goregaon wherein at nominal cost best of treatment is provided. This center at a time provides blood transfusion facility for two patients on a comfortable seating, fully air conditioned room and T.V viewing facilities making the patient feel comfortable.
